The Abhaya Mudra Pose

This piece is carved in the raised open palm of Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of fearlessness, welcome and protection. It's traditionally placed where people arrive, such as entranceways, hallways and porches, as a gesture of greeting and reassurance to everyone who passes. Specifications Height 100cm (1 metre) Width 40cm Depth 28cm Weight 23kg Material Solid Suar wood Finish Whitewash, hand applied Pose Standing, Abhaya Mudra.

Wood, Carving & Finish

Hand carved from solid wood, finished in matte, white tone. Every piece is cut and shaped by hand rather than moulded, so the grain, tool marks and finish vary slightly from statue to statue, that variation is part of the character, not a flaw. The styling leans minimalism. It has a solid construction.

Placement & Styling

At 1m, it needs its own floor spot rather than a shelf, an entranceway, a living room corner, or a meditation nook with a little clear space around it so it can act as a proper focal point. Pale linens, natural stone, rattan and greenery all sit well alongside a carved or whitewashed finish; keep it out of prolonged direct sun, which fades wood and painted finishes over time. (Free standing piece.)

Size & Care

Size is approximately 1m. Dust with a soft, dry cloth, avoid wet cloths on carved or textured grain, as moisture can lift a whitewash or painted finish. Once a year, a light coat of natural wood wax or Danish oil on any unfinished wood areas helps prevent drying or cracking, especially in centrally heated homes over winter. Avoid chemical sprays, polish and direct water contact.
